Point names, point categories, illustrations, point locations, location notes, Chinese characters and Chinese pronunciation

  • Chinese point names (in both pinyin and characters), with English translation and audio of Chinese pronunciation (Lung channel pronunciations only in Lite version).
  • Both Lite and Pro versions show the category of the point as, for example, a Front-Mu, Back-Shu point or Xi-Cleft point, Point of the Window of heaven Ma Danyang Heavenly Star point, meeting point of more than one channel etc.
  • One or more beautiful and anatomically precise illustrations for every acupuncture point in both Lite and Pro versions.
  • Anatomically precise location instructions and practical location notes for every point (Lung channel only in Lite version).

Videos

  • Pro version includes ‘how to find’ videos for all points (including extra points), essential surface anatomy videos and animated videos of primary channel pathways. All have instructional voiceovers, while the point videos include instructions on how to needle the point (direction and depth as well as cautions).
  • Lite version offers Lung channel videos only, plus a sample surface anatomy and channel pathway videos.

Self-testing modules

  • Lite version offers multiple choice tests asking you to identify a point from an illustration by selecting from a list of all the points of its related channel.
  • Pro version includes multiple choice tests described above, as well as location tests (place the requested point on the provided illustrations), body area tests (identify the requested point from a selection of possible points), Chinese point name tests (identify the point from the Chinese name and characters) and classification tests (e.g. ‘select the He-Sea point of the Kidney channel’, ‘the Back-Shu point of the Stomach’, ‘the Water point of the Small Intestine channel’). More test options coming soon.

Key clinical information including point actions, indications, clinical application and combinations

Key clinical information (Lite version only offers this for the Lung channel) includes:

  1. Chinese point actions (e.g. for Yanglingquan GB-34: benefits the sinews and joints, activates the channel and alleviates pain, spreads Liver qi and benefits the lateral costal region, clears Liver and Gall Bladder damp-heat, harmonises shaoyang).
  2. Numerous indications for every point, mostly drawn from Chinese sources (Lite version offers Lung channel only).
  3. Clinical application: a summary of the most important and most commonly-used applications of each point (Lite version offers Lung channel only).
  4. Numerous point combinations, mostly drawn from Chinese sources (Lite version offers Lung channel only).

Full text from A Manual of Acupuncture (including extensive point commentaries)

  • The heart of A Manual of Acupuncture is the extensive commentaries on every major point. The Pro version contains all this extensive content, while the Lite version offers it only for the Lung channel.
  • Additional text (samples only in Lite version) includes lengthy discussion of the channels, the extraordinary vessels, the point categories, point locations and needling, point selection methods and more.

Point groups

All the major point groups (e.g. five shu, luo-connecting, hui-meeting etc.) are included for you to test yourself on, and you also have the option to create as many of your own point groups as you wish – either for clinical use (e.g. ‘my major points for dysmenorrhoea’) or for self-testing (e.g. ‘points I keep getting wrong in tests’).

Full notes function

Lite and Pro versions. Add your own notes to any field on the points pages, for example location, location notes, categories, indications, clinical application, combinations etc.

Search function

The sophisticated search function allows you to search the whole app (limited to the Lung channel in Lite version), or else choose by channel and/or any field within the points pages (e.g. actions, indications, clinical application etc.). Even more options are available in the Online Edition, for example searching for precise phrases using quote marks (e.g. “neck pain” will only return results containing that phrase, as opposed to all pages containing either ‘neck’ or ‘pain’).

Reference pages (additional illustrations, indexes etc.)

Lite and Pro versions:

  • Illustrations of channels, areas reached by channel, cutaneous regions.

Pro version only:

  • Twenty-five body area illustrations showing all the main points in the region.
  • Chinese and English point names index, index of areas reached by the channels, combinations index, general index, glossary of more obscure terms (with Chinese characters), and chart of Chinese dynasties.
  • Chart of the meeting points of more than one channel
